3D printing on a Bambu P1P
My main maker tool: PLA prints, magnets in everything, and a move from Tinkercad to Fusion 360.
- Bambu Lab P1P
- AMS
- Fusion 360
- Bambu Studio
- PLA Basic
The Bambu Lab P1P is the workhorse of my hobby setup, and PLA Basic is my go-to filament.
How I work
- CAD: I started in Tinkercad and have moved to Fusion 360 as my main tool. I’m also exploring AI-assisted CAD, where OpenSCAD’s code-based models are the easiest for an AI to edit.
- Slicing: Bambu Studio. I export STL for single-colour parts and OBJ when I want multi-colour prints through the AMS.
- Magnets: I’ve standardised on 8 × 3 mm N52 magnets for almost everything. Pockets printed at 8.1–8.2 mm give a snug press fit in PLA.
Lessons learned the hard way
- A recurring bed-adhesion problem turned out to be the Z offset, not the plate or the filament.
- I’ve recovered from a full spaghetti-and-blob failure. A cold pull is now part of my routine for clearing the nozzle.
Next
- Learning multi-colour AMS workflows properly.
- Printing custom accessories and mounts for the OT-2.
